Initiatives

PAVE is a community of parents dedicated to improving the education of children with disabilities through collaboration, advocacy, and informed action. Together, we identify systemic challenges, work with school districts, legislators and the Department of Education to promote meaningful change, and advocate for greater accountability and better outcomes for students with disabilities. By combining the voices and experiences of families, PAVE empowers parents to help shape policies and practices that create more inclusive, effective, and equitable educational opportunities for all.

Gather & Grow is a monthly South Florida meet‑up for parents of children with disabilities ages 1–12. This group is designed to help parents connect with others who truly understand the journey, while giving our kids a chance to socialize monthly in fun, inclusive environments like museums, splash pads, and local community spots.

If you are interested in receiving info on these activities, please fill out the below form and you will be added to the email list so that you can get details on upcoming events.

*Please note: Parents and/or caregivers must remain with and supervise their children at all times. This gathering is simply an opportunity for families to connect, we do not provide additional adult support.

We look forward to making new connections and having fun!

Ability in Action is a (DASS) community volunteering program for adults (18+) with developmental disabilities that empowers individuals to make a meaningful difference through service, connection, and community engagement. Each month, participants will come together to volunteer in a variety of inclusive community projects while building confidence, friendships, leadership skills, and a sense of purpose.

At Disability Advocacy and Support Specialists (DASS), we believe people with disabilities not only benefit from support—they are valuable contributors, leaders, and change-makers   in their communities. Through meaningful volunteer experiences, participants will have opportunities to give back, develop independence, and show the community the power of inclusion in action.

Sign up to be placed on the signup list and you will receive notifications of when events are scheduled and what they are.

* Please note that those who need extra adult support will need to bring their support person with them.

🎭If you’re a neurodiverse person who is interested in taking an improv/acting class, this program is for YOU!
This is a partnership with the Broward Center for Performing Arts and focuses on building confidence, improving communication and connecting with others!
Those who are interested in growing their skills through theater or film can sign up here to obtain dates for future classes.
Improv is an excellent way to grow social communication skills, build confidence, and connect with others.

The Power of Me is a free six-month self-advocacy program designed to help teens with disabilities discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to speak up for themselves. Through engaging activities, real-life practice, and meaningful discussions, participants learn about self-determination, communication, decision-making, goal setting, and understanding their rights. Our goal is to empower each teen to become an active participant in their education, future employment, relationships, and community. Every participant leaves with greater confidence, stronger leadership skills, and the belief that their voice matters.

One of the best parts of this community is the lived experience we share. We’re launching a Parent‑to‑Parent Mentor Program for families of children with disabilities called MAP -Mentor Assist Partner. We are looking for compassionate Parent Mentors who are willing to share their experience, offer encouragement, and remind new or struggling parents that they are not alone. Your lived experience could become someone else’s source of hope. Join us in helping families navigate the journey—one parent at a time. Our goal is to build real support, connection, and a stronger community for us all.
While this initiative is focused on parents, watch for future opportunities of mentorships for people with disabilities.
